We are proud to announce that an art piece created by our own Zoey Lanier (8th grade) has been selected by the county Art Teachers to be sent to Parkersburg for this year's West Virginia Art Educator Associations Juried Show. Zoeys painting will be the only selected Middle School work to represent Kanawha County.  The WVAEA Juried Show only allows for 11 total pieces to be selected from across the entire county, and is a selective process.  A big congratulations to Zoey!  Another representation of  the talent here at Elkview Middle School!

Elkview Middle will be using Big Teams next year to collect ALL athletic forms digitally instead of coaches collecting paperwork. Attached below are a couple of things parents and athletes can review about setting up accounts. It isn't hard to set up and will only take a few minutes. Both student and parent have to have an account. Once you make an account, you won't have to create one again. You will just sign in each year to upload your current material.   Please know, we WILL NOT take paper copies starting this upcoming year.

If you have questions, please email Coach Gray at  [email protected]   He'll be happy to help you through the process.

Below is the link to the website to sign up.

In an effort to ensure our students have the most up to date technology, KCS will be exchanging student iPads with a newer model. This will benefit our students in many ways including more device storage and longer battery life.

Our scheduled exchange date for Elkview Middle students in grades 6-8 will be Monday, May 8, 2023.

There are a few things to do to prepare for this exchange:

1.  Students must bring their charged iPad on the date above.

2.  Bring Apple charging brick and cord to school on the date above.  (Students will receive a new faster charging cable/brick with their new iPad).  If you do not have the brick and cable, bring $10 to pay for it.

3.  Please make sure all equipment is returned to avoid any missing equipment charge.

4.  Verify the school issued student Apple ID is logged into their device and iCloud backup is turned on. (This will ensure all of your data/pictures will transfer to the new device).  Directions are attached below for checking this.  If you are unable to sign in and need the student password reset, please contact the tech by email [email protected].

Kanawha County Schools will be conducting a trial program at three schools in the Elkview area, our school included, for a smartphone app that helps to improve school bus communication and efficiency. The Edulog Parent Portal app provides you with planned time and location information for your child’s bus rides to and from school. On a daily basis, the app will show you the GPS location of the bus and send you a push notification when it is nearing your bus stop.

This app is free of charge for our parents, caregivers, and students. In addition to displaying the location of your bus and sending the notifications, you can also receive time-sensitive messages from our transportation department.

The full pilot program will begin on Monday, March 20th, but you can go ahead and download the app now and start tracking your bus. Please look for a letter to be sent home with your student.

VERY IMPORTANT ABOUT EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES!!!
It has been brought to our attention that some of our athletes / band members have been signing in late and not attending at least a half day of school.   Keep in mind the WVSSAC policy
126-26-4 Eligibility
4.1 In order to participate in the extracurricular activities to which this policy applies, a student must meet the following:
4.1.a  adhere to all state and local attendance policies.

This means a student MUST attend a half day of school.   They MUST sign in by 11:00 am in order to participate in practice or games.   Students that do not attend a half day or more of school are considered ineligible and if they participate it will result in the team having to forfeit games.  This is something that we do not want, so please understand that students need to be in school if participating in extra-curricular activities.

Thank you
